Record of Ear Marks for Cattle,
1697-1709
Ear marks were a method for farmers to distinguish their livestock by cropping
their ears in distinctive patterns. This document shows the ear marks of livestock
that grazed upon the Bedford Village Green from the late 17th century through
the early 18th century. The marks were registered to livestock owners at the
Bedford Town Hall and are listed on the last two pages of Town Book I.
