When New York State celebrated the 300th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s 1609 voyage up the Hudson River in 1909, almost every municipality in the state participated. The village of Bronxville was no exception. For four days in May 1909, about 1,000 villagers participated in several events, among them a pageant reenacting scenes from Westchester history. Proceeds from the events, which included the drama, a costume ball and a formal bridge party, were to benefit the newly established Lawrence Hospital. Seen here are the poster which advertised the reenactment of historical events, a program of all the festivities, and photographs from the event (one of which was of General George Custer's widow, Elizabeth, in a costume from 1690) from the New-York Daily Tribune. Mrs. Custer wrote the script for one of the pageant scenes.
