During the early 1920s trustees of the Bronxville School established the principles of progressive education within their public school system. Freedom for the student to develop naturally, teacher as guide rather than taskmaster, close cooperation between school and home to meet the needs of the child were among the principles that the Bronxville School embraced.
The compilation of prose, verse and artwork by elementary school students entitled By Seven Singing Willows was published by the Bronxville School to illustrate to parents and the public the accomplishments of the students in the elementary school. The Bronxville Schools Bulletin, published in June 1937, was issued to acquaint the community with a revised curriculum for grades 10-12. Many progressive education themes run through its pages.
