Photographs of Wilsea-Mead House and Clara Mead,
ca. 1915-1925
Clara Mead’s father, Herbert, came to Dobbs Ferry in the mid-19th century
from Waccabuc, a hamlet in the Town of Lewisboro, where his grandfather Enoch
Mead settled when he came to Westchester from Connecticut in 1776. Herbert
Mead was a business man and dog breeder. His daughter, Clara, never married
and lived all her life in Dobbs Ferry, donating her house to the Dobbs Ferry
Historical Society when she died in 1991. These photographs, of Clara as a
young woman and of her home, were probably taken sometime between 1915 and
1925.
