Oral Histories and Photograph of Residents of Sparta, 1977
Sparta was first laid out as a real estate subdivision in 1795. Located in the
Town of Mount Pleasant, now Ossining, it was probably, according to historian
Richard Lederer, the first such subdivision in the country. In 1977 volunteers
from the Ossining Historical Society interviewed Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Acker, who
lived all their lives in Ossining, mostly in the Sparta area. The Ackers were
93 and 94 respectively when they shared on tape their memories of Sparta. There
are three audio tapes and an index for each tape.
