New York State Woman Suffrage Party Petitions, 1917
In 1917 the New York State Woman Suffrage Party sponsored petitions which
advocated for a woman’s right to vote. Signatures of hundreds of supporters
from Westchester County (including Ossining) are listed on five boards that
were recently discovered in the Ossining Masonic Building. The boards came
complete with handles to be used for carrying in parades and demonstrations.
The 19th amendment to the U. S. Constitution, guaranteeing women the right
to vote, was finally ratified in August 1920.
