"Park Hill Homes,"
1912
In 1889 the American Real Estate Company began to acquire land in southwest
Yonkers from one of Yonkers’ leading citizens, Robert Parkhill Getty.
The company planned to develop an upper-middle-class residential neighborhood
that had spectacular views of the Hudson River and easy access to the train.
By 1912, when American Real Estate published this brochure, the Park Hill development
was thriving. Although Park Hill had some difficulties during the Depression
of the 1930s, it has remained a desirable residential neighborhood.
