Lives of Soldiers:
Valentine Mott Hodgson

Valentine Mott Hodgson was born December 23, 1836, in New York City. While still in his infancy, his family moved to White Plains, where Hodgson lived for the rest of his life. The White Plains 1845 census shows George W. Hodgson, Valentine's father, as the head of a large family. Valentine became a druggist at the age of 17, and four years later married Eliza T. Requa of Tarrytown. The White Plains Register of Electors lists Valentine M. Hodgson for the years 1859 and 1860, but gives no personal details beyond the name.
