Farmers and Drovers Bank $2 Note, 1846
The Farmers and Drovers Bank of Somers was the second banking
institution to be organized in Westchester County. Founded in 1839
largely with monies made by the menagerie and circus owners of
the area, the bank was located in the Elephant Hotel. When the
railroads by-passed the town, commerce in the area slowly declined,
and the bank began liquidation in 1885.
