Westchester Temporary Home for Destitute Children Album of Photographs,
1907-1908
This album of photographs was
kept by Anna Sweet, one of the teachers at the Westchester Temporary
Home for Destitute Children in White Plains. The home was established
in Pleasantville in 1880, the result of legislation by New York
State requiring that needy children not be housed in almshouses
with adults. By 1890, the home had been moved to a building on
North Street in White Plains. It closed its doors in 1908, shortly
after these photos were taken.
