From the early part of the 19th century until the middle of the 20th century, iron foundries were an important industry in Peekskill. These records illustrate the variety and vibrancy of the foundry era in Peekskill; they include advertisements for stoves and grates and fire place heaters from the Union Stove Works; catalogs for plows from Horton, Depew & Sons and J.B. Brown & Co.; photographs of foundry buildings and workers along the Hudson River waterfront; and a business card from the Southard Robertson Company. Products made in Peekskill foundries were shipped to every area of the United States and abroad. The plow business declined during the Civil War, but the stove business ramained strong until well into the 20th century.
