1685 Deed with the Indians for Ryck's Patent, Liber A

This deed from the local Native Americans to Richard “Ryck” Abramson and five other men is recorded in Liber A, the first book of Westchester County records. When Westchester and 11 other counties were created in 1683, each of their “clerkes” was required to purchase a book in which to record all the important events in their respective counties. Westchester’s Liber A contains many property recordings, along with wills, marriage records, court and other legal records. The specific property covered by this deed is a 1,800-acre parcel on which much of the present City of Peekskill was built.
